"Once our eyes are opened, we can't pretend we don't know what to do. God, who weighs our hearts and keeps our souls, knows that we know, and holds us responsible to act."

"Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west. I will say to the north, "Give them up!" and to the south, "Do not hold them back." Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth" Isaiah 43:5-6

"Remember those…who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering." (Hebrews 13:3)

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves…defend the rights of the needy." (Proverbs 31:8,9)

"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'" Matthew 25:40
This is our journal to rescue an orphan with Down syndrome who lives in an orphanage in Eastern Europe. Anna was left at the hospital by her parents, who refused to take her home because she was born with Down syndrome. In Anna's country people with disabilities are looked down upon and are typically hidden away in orphanages from birth and their outlook for life is not very good. Once the orphan turns 4-6 depending on the region they live in, they are then transferred from the orphanage to mental institutions or insane asylums. Our family desperately wants to make Anna our daughter before she is transferred as she is already 5 years old. We will love her and give her the family that she deserves and give her a future full of hope, despite her disability. When our family stepped out in faith and committed to adopt Anna we didn't have the money that it would take to get her here. God has worked miracles in so many aspects of our adoption. The biggest miracle is that I have had faith all alone that God would send the money we needed to adopt Anna. Through many answered prayers, God made sure we had every penny we needed to make her our daughter!

Saving Oksana

My friend Jody is a single mother who has jumped out in faith and is adopting beautiful Oksana through Reece's Rainbow. Oksana is a beautiful little carrot top girl with Down syndrome.  She is six years old and is most likely in a mental institution by now.  She is in the same region as our Anna was and I think she is possibly at the same institution that Anna was, so this could be our little girl's friend for all we know! In one of her pictures she has on the same sweater that Anna wore when we met her for the first time and we all know that children in orphanages share their clothes so I am thinking it is very possible that this little girl is Anna's friend! How awesome would it be to reunite them some day??

Jody has stepped out in faith (just like we did!) and is believing God for a financial miracle to make Oksana her daughter. Right now Jody is holding an awesome fundraiser/prize give away and will be giving away a 51" Flat screen tv. The fundraiser is going on until May 31st. Make a donation of $5 and you will be entered once for the drawing. Donate $10 and you will get 3 entries and $20 will get you 10 entries! Maybe you could even donate more to help bring this sweet girl home and give her the gift of a family? Here is the link to the give away ~ Flat screen tv giveaway!  There is a chipin in her blog that you could make a donation to through Paypal or your credit card.  The chipin will allow the money to be available directly to the family to help with up front costs like airfare, facilitator fees, etc.  Or you can make a tax deductible donation through Reece's Rainbow by going here~ Reece's Rainbow for Oksana

Many people do not understand how neglected and malnourished orphans in Eastern Europe are and do not understand why they should help a family adopt a child by donating.  A lot of people think if you can't afford the adoption fees (which by the way go up to $50,000 or more) then you shouldn't be adopting. This statement REALLY hurts because there are MANY families just like ours who don't have a spare $50,000 in the bank but we could certainly provide for another child. God commands us to take care of the orphans and the widows on many occasions in the bible.  He didn't add -take care of orphans and widows if you have $50,000 laying around the house. No, he just says -DO IT- and we have to trust in him to provide the financial means to adopt a child and give them the love of a family. We have to step out in faith and believe that God WILL provide in one way or the other!

So I ask you to please, please consider making a donation to help Jody bring Oksana home and rescue her from the institution where she will spend the rest of her life if no one comes to make her their daughter. Think about our sweet Anna who came home infested with scabies, fungus, pin worms and covered in molluscum. She scratched at her poor skin 24/7 and yes I mean even in her sleep! Every thing that I just listed is VERY contagious and the children are not being treated at the institution.  The orphanage doctor just kept telling me that all of the sores all over Anna's body and feet were an allergic reaction! They had no clue. :(  Anna walked with a limp when we first got her and we thought that she had an injury to her ankle or foot that had not been treated. But we were wrong! Something was embedded in her foot causing her pain and causing her to walk with a limp.  Shortly after we removed the foreign object from her foot she began to walk normal again! Just by these small examples you can see the pain and torture that orphans face in EE and why? Why must they sit and rot in mental institutions? Because they have disabilities that's why! In EE children with disabilities are thought of as not worthy of love, a family, affection or medical care :(  So I beg you to please help this family bring Oksana home so they can make her their daughter and sister! Any donation given will be deeply appreciated!

Just like Anna~ they have shaved beautiful Oksana's hair :(

Oh, Traci, This made me cry. I can't believe you wrote this beautiful post for my sweet girl. Oh, how I love her. She needs a family so badly and without help, I simply cannot go get her, and honestly, I don't think God wants me to do it alone. I am extremely grateful for every penny given to give this baby girl a life. Our girls will most certainly be reunited one day. Thank you for sharing... Thank you to those who are inspired to give as a result... I pray God blesses you richly and that He will continue to do so as she makes this journey home and we all watch her flourish together.

Traci. Thank you for continuing to help these little ones. My family has also continued to give back by sponsoring a family monthly on RR. However, I would also like to help your friend and I am planning on making a donation to Oksana.
Keep up the great work and I know you are enjoying your daughter.
